I wonder if we start to get rooted again if you see the tribalism expressed in 1984. Us vs Them to keep the political theatrics going and to keep control.

I mean, that would be today but worse and I can believe it.

To give away the thrust behind a lot of my thought it's "how can this make for today but worse?"

I was trying to explore a little bit what an unexpected positive upside would look like and that would be the reformation of real and connected communities.

The white collar ladies thing I think is actually likely - the question is what will they do/what will be done with them? Millenial women without kids going on MOAR meds would make for a bad time. Pitbulls everywhere, no place will be safe.

I think all of this can and will get worse.

Wow ;

The teaser got my interest but you lost me in the details .

Yes American tended to be more mobile / transient in times gone past .

As a child I often felt like a Gypsy and hated it ~ I always wanted to buy a place to live this evaded me until I was in my 30's .

The rest seems above my pay grade .

I'm a Conservative Blue Collar guy and never wanted to be more .

I know so many rich folks and I'd hate to have to deal with their problems .

Not allowing Citizens from moving if they want is a very bad precedent I think .

I assure you any failure or getting lost is on me!

I think losing our freedom of movement (though implicitly and not explicitly) would mean giving up an historical part of America and it's self-conception but there are potential unexpected upsides.

I didn't like the constant moving 'round when I was young but continued it into my adulthood ~ I'd drive my then young son around and show him the various places I'd lived in, he once said "jeez Dad, is there anyplace you haven't lived ?" .

The ability to move and try new things, places, jobs, education and so on is very critical to America's successes .

I'm just another old Mechanic but one who actually enjoys traveling in his old vehicles .

I love meeting new people everywhere I go ~it's like having 'life school' daily =8-) .

You make an outstanding point that is at the root of this EV furture and that is to limit the mobility of all but the top of the social structure. Across the history of America, from canoes, to river rafts, to horses and wagons, to station wagons, to Prevost RV, Americans have had the freedom of movement. Ristrict movement and you restict freedom. That IMHO is the ultimate goal. It is much easier to control a heard of sheep in a pen then it is on the open range. Keep spreading the word......
